An Unforgettable Electrifying Night: SEBCM Activation Celebration at the 51st Academy Annual Meeting in Georgia

This past February, at the 51st Academy Annual Meeting, GSOP, SEBCM Georgia, and SEBCM National hosted the electrifying “So Every BODY Can Move Activation Celebration” in Georgia. This standing-room-only event showcased our significant strides in advancing SEBCM’s mission. This unforgettable gathering, made possible by the collaborative efforts of GSOP, SEBCM Georgia, our National team, and our friends at the Academy, was a testament to the power of partnership and community engagement.

The evening was masterfully emceed by GSOP President Jason Auyer and featured engaging updates from SEBCM National team members Nicole Ver Kuilen and Kyle Stepp, alongside SEBCM Georgia Leads Rachael Auyer and Cristalei Polk. A standout moment of the night was the fireside chat with former UGA and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi and four-time Paralympian Jarryd Wallace. Their compelling dialogue about the challenges of securing insurance coverage for activity-specific prosthetics and their personal stories as athletes deeply motivated attendees, emphasizing the critical importance of continued advocacy and engagement with SEBCM.

The event concluded with SEBCM Georgia leaders honoring their legislative sponsors, Rep. Clark, Senator Still, and Rep. Schofield, whose presence highlighted the legislative progress and promising future of advocacy efforts in Georgia.

The collective spirit and dedication at the event were palpable, as everyone demonstrated their commitment to advancing the SEBCM movement, both in Georgia and nationally. This celebration underscored our local impact across the country and strengthened our resolve to continue pushing toward our goal of legislative change in 28 states by the LA 2028 Paralympics, ultimately aiming for federal nationwide reform.
